How We Teach

Our Tutoring Method

Great tutoring isn't about handing students the answers — it's about teaching them how to find the answers themselves. Here's how we do it.

Our goal for every lesson

By the end of a session, a student should be able to work through a problem accurately and independently — without the tutor's help. Everything we do is built around getting them there.

We start by asking, not telling

Our tutors guide students with leading questions — small, well-timed prompts that help a student move from one step to the next on their own. Instead of doing the problem for them, we help them discover each step, so the thinking sticks long after the lesson ends.

We meet every student where they are

Students learn differently, so we adjust our approach to fit each one. Most students thrive on guided questioning, but when a topic is brand new or a learner needs more support, we shift to whatever helps them most.

1
Our default

Guided questioning

The tutor asks leading questions that walk the student step by step through a problem type. The student does the thinking; the tutor provides the nudges.

2
When a topic is new

Model, then practice together

If a student has very limited understanding of a topic, leading questions alone won't get them there yet. So the tutor works through a clear example first, then has the student try one with guidance along the way — gradually handing over the reins.

3
Occasionally

Direct demonstration

Once in a while, a student learns best by simply being shown how to do each problem type. In these rare cases, we cater to that learning style — then build them back toward solving on their own.

Visuals on every concept

No matter which approach we use, our tutors back up terms and definitions with plenty of visuals. Seeing a concept — not just hearing it — helps it click and makes it far easier to remember.
